karen Loftus - Botswana - Women Adventure Travels

Karen Loftus is a well-known and respected luxury travel and lifestyle writer and photographer with a sense of humor, a wicked sense of adventure, and an insatiable appetite for off-the-beaten-path endeavors.

Her parents set the jet-setting tone long ago as they returned from their many trips with deep tans and tall tales to tell from their far-flung travels.

Karen hit her international stride twenty-plus years ago. She was an award-winning feminist playwright and the first Tennessee Williams Fellow for her solo show, I'm Not The Blond You Think I Am.

She was also a groundbreaking international comedian in the US, Europe, Asia, and The Middle East. Her first-ever international comedy tour was in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Bahrain twenty-plus years ago.

Her last comedy concert, American Woman, a One-Woman Comedic Invasion, was a tour-de-force. The more than two-hour show took her around the globe for many years.

She entertained US troops and audiences worldwide at clubs, colleges, corporate events, theaters, and comedy festivals (the Edinburgh Fringe Festival three times).

As she is globally known, Lofty also ran her nonprofit, Body Comedy, where she used humor to heal. She worked with thousands of survivors of physical and sexual violence, women, and children in many facilities, juvenile halls, prisons, and several shelters in LA and across the country for nearly ten years.

Body Comedy was featured worldwide in documentaries, radio shows, and news programs such as BBC, CNBC & MS Magazine. In addition, Comedy Central was Body Comedy's primary nonprofit sponsor for seven years.

Ten years later, Karen ended up on Hollywood's raging red carpet, interviewing the celeb set and writing about travel, fashion, beauty, food and wine, and the Hollywood lifestyle.

Since then, she has been fortunate to be on assignment, traveled to all seven continents and 70+ countries, and counting as a travel and lifestyle writer and photographer for over 100 international media outlets.

Travel writing was an easy transition from stand-up comedy as Karen still traveled and told stories.

She was putting on the page what she once put on stage.

Her compelling and entertaining stories have appeared in Vogue, Architectural Digest, Forbes, Robb Report, American Way, Hemispheres Magazine, The NY Daily News, The Globe & Mail, South China Morning Post, The Gulf News, Huffington Post, Travel Weekly, Yahoo, Inside Hook, Men's Fitness, Ask Men and Men's Journal among many others.

This creative serial entrepreneur has produced comedy tours and theatrical events worldwide through her production company, Goddess Productions, and lifestyle and fashion-driven events in LA through her event company, The Lofty Style Lounge, for the A-List celeb set, stylists, and key media.

WAT has partnered with 40+ nonprofit chapters, Girls on the Run, Girls Inc., Dress for Success, and Junior League, among others, domestically and globally.

If a referral to WAT comes from one of the nonprofits, an additional five percent goes back to that specific local nonprofit chapter.

Karen believes two hands are better than one, and together they can join hands and join forces in lifting women and girls worldwide.

Additionally, WAT is now designing trips for specific nonprofits to connect the communities and offer them a fundraising tool that reflects their spirit and ethos.

Her e-com shop, The SAY WAT Shop, is an extension of her travel company, WAT (Women's Adventure Travels).

The shop champions all women and features empowering and sassy apparel, gifts, and gear for women, travelers, yogis, and fashion-forward jazzy individuals.

Top celebrity stylists, many members of the media, and A-Lost Cast members of The Office, Entourage, Weeds, Desperate Housewives, Reno 911, Bravo, E! TV, Entertainment Tonight, Comedy Central, and others were in attendance at her many Loftys Style Lounge events in LA.

A few years back, Karen launched Women's Adventure Travels (WAT), a boutique travel company specializing in small, customized trips for women.

Aside from the inherent adventure, all WAT's trips have an empowering and fierce feminine thread as each destination is seen through a feminine lens.

WAT supports women-owned businesses and celebrates women of influence and distinction in each market.

Be it a hotelier, a chef, an artisan, a conservationist, or a village woman defying the local or global odds.

As a nod to Karen's nonprofit past, there is a five percent give-back factor in WAT's trips, with five percent of the profits of the trip returning to the local community.
